Like anal sex – Guinness is an acquired taste NN – just keep persisting – with both!
Never heard of Belhaven – so have no idea whether it is truly representative of Scottish beer.
you might want to try a McEwan’s Tartan Ale – well known and respected – IF your local store has it.
Most Scottish draft beer is known by the “shilling” an old part of the currency.
70shilling was the cheap stuff – 80shilling was – obviously – medium brew – and 90 shilling was the best – usually 4-5% alcohol.
The shilling price apparently represented the government duty on the beer.
If you want to try an Irish Ale that goes down smoothly – try Kilkenny Ale – made by Guinness – but a lovely golden ale with a smooth head!
There you go – didn’t mention Ass once -oopps!
