I…
I salute those
that have fallen.
I salute those
that still stand.
I shed the tears
of widows and widowers.
I shed the tears
of the parentless child.
I honor my country
with its colors upon my chest.
I honor my country
with my prayers today.
I stand in remembrance.
I stand in reverence.
I stand in respect.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I’ll always love you.
Won’t you be my Valentine?
The tattered red heart
Worn by all the years
Marking the page of
the book where words
are written in red.
Promises captured
Inked in blood
Comfort hiding in all the creases
Simple smiles from days gone past.
Yet a heart swollen
encased in pain
Arguments screamed
Tears shed
Sleepless nights with
salt stained pillows.
One last moment
to erase the torture
of silent days
and unanswered calls
One last chance to say
I Love You
to say goodbye
As the preacher closes the coffin
one last time.

I watched as the fog laid a heavy blanket on the Earth.
Lulling it to sleep as if it whispered an antediluvian lullaby.
Silently laughing as the ancient sun warrior slept overhead.
As his devious laughter rose, the mighty sun woke
Stretching out his mighty arms and
Throwing open his hands.
Fire flew from his fingertips as
He illuminated the land below.
Unheard screams filtered from the mist as it
Coiled and retreated in fear.
Limbs from the mighty oak danced gracefully
Dropping its dew to douse the growing
Firey smoke slithering from the waking land.
*W is for Whispers*

I heard a whisper in the night
a voice so low I had to strain
Melodic moments humming mindlessly
disregarding any rhyme…
or reason.
Hypnotizing
mesmerizing
Magically …
sinful.
I closed my eyes for a closer listen
and sssshhhed the world around me.
I swear I felt hands among my hips
and a breath so close I shivered.
But, still I stood in simple wonderment
at the whisper I heard in the night.
xoxo
The shower water pelted down.
My skin vibrated under the gentle dance.
I breathe in heavily the luxuriant scent of my conditioner.
The morning sun waltzes through the curtain.
I hear the dog bark…
I squirm as the soap tickles its way down my back
A cool breeze wafts by.
I turn the hot water handle to the left.
I sigh as the last of the hot water heats through and reddens my skin.
I hear the dog bark.
The shower stops with a pop in the pipes.
A whisper sneaks by.
I know I’m alone.
I heard the garage door go up/and down.
Didn’t I.
The dog stops barking.
As the towel drinks the droplets from my skin, the movement behind the curtains cause a gasp.
I don’t move.
The dog barks again.
The blow dryer heats each strand.
I love the feel as the warmth of the air as it sways the tiny hairs on my neck.
A whisper sneaks by…
I hit the power switch.
Silence shattered by the bark of the dog.

Taking down Christmas
A sad time of year
The bringing down of lights
Causes my eyes to well with tears
The dismantling of the tree
Makes my eyes sting
….This time of year.
I guess this is a fitting way
To tell the old good bye
But as I fill the storage boxes
and prepare to stow them away
I can’t help but think
That a little spirit is lost
Tucked neatly in my closet
Laughter and cheer hide there
It seems it gets forgotten
Just left on the shelf to stare
Why can’t the symbolism
Stay up all year through
To remind of us all the “Peace on Earth”
“Good Tidings to All” and “Happy Holiday to You”
But, instead, the garland, lights, and tree
Are crammed too tightly in their homes
To wait a year to be free
…For their special time of year!
